Have you got questions about life, the universe and everything? Have you got questions about the Christian faith? Who is Jesus and how do we respond to him?

The Start course provides a space to ask those questions and discover Christianity in six small group sessions. The course assumes no previous experience of Christianity but is also useful for those new to church or anyone wanting to know more.

Each session begins with a meal (no charge!) at 6pm on Sunday, followed by short dvd clips and discussion activities. The next course begins on 8th October and ends on 19th November 2017. If you're interested please contact us.

In 2014, and as I was just starting my walk with the Lord, I had a lot of questions, but didn't know where to look. I was told about the Start course that was due to run at St. James. I wasn't sure what to expect, but I really wanted to know more about God, Jesus and what the Bible means.

The course was over a 6 week period. At the start of the evening, those of us on the course, and several lovely church members sat down for a meal. It was a chance to talk and get to know each other in fellowship. After the meal, we watched a DVD that was broken down into 6 sections, one a week. We were also given a booklet that accompanied the DVD.

The DVD and booklet I felt, was planned to make it easy to follow, and not to overwhelm the novice, or even the experienced believer. It was designed for, and invited discussion on each section. No question we asked was too difficult or considered silly. In the booklet, there were various bible verses which we could reflect on at home. I found the course to be incredibly helpful, and I feel helped me to reaffirm my faith when I was Confirmed by Bishop Toby in March 2015.

I now read my Bible everyday, but I know that I still have much to learn. I have been prayed for, and have prayed for others. I have a wonderful church family. Although I may be a long way from home, I am never lonely.

So, if you are new to the faith, or even if you have been walking with the Lord for many years, I can highly recommend the Start course.
